Perylous Emerges, Dancehall New Voice Ready to Disrupt the Scene

Kingston, Jamaica – The heart of dancehall beats anew as Perylous steps boldly onto the stage, announcing himself as a dynamic force poised to challenge and reshape Jamaica’s musical landscape. Born and raised in Kingston, Perylous brings a fresh perspective to dancehall, blending self-love, confidence, and powerful storytelling in every beat.

Perylous now enters the spotlight with his latest single and video, Buss Dem Face,” a track that arrives at a moment when dancehall artists are fiercely demonstrating their lyrical prowess.

With biting verses and infectious rhythms, “Buss Dem Face” positions Perylous at the centre of today’s lyrical confrontations, proving he’s not just a new voice but a serious contender ready to disrupt the scene. The song was produced collaboratively by Anarchy Records, GDwag Records, and Keron Records. Kyng Kreative directed the accompanying music video.

“I want my music to be happy, to inspire the youth, and to prove that with self-love and determination, anything is possible,” says Perylous. His performances have electrified communities across Jamaica, laying the groundwork for the greatness that is yet to come. This mission to inspire and motivate the youth is a key part of Perylous's music and something that his fans can take hope from.

Perylous music tells the story of the modern Jamaican youth, grappling with poverty, limited opportunities, and a lack of trust in the government. Singles like "What is Cappa," "Rapture," "Pull Up," and "Issa 10" have already gained traction on social media, with several going viral on TikTok and other platforms. Now, “Buss Dem Face” is set to raise the bar even higher.

From seventh-grade freestyle sessions to professionally pursuing music after high school in 2014, Perylous channels the influences of icons like Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Alkaline, Bounty Killer, and Beenie Man. But he is more than the sum of his inspirations; Perylous is the founder of a new, unapologetic movement—one marked by anarchy, authenticity, and a belief that self-confidence can break all barriers.

As Perylous carves out his legacy, he invites listeners to join a movement built on music, self-expression, and the courage to challenge the status quo. With “Buss Dem Face,” Kingston’s rising star signals that he’s ready to make his mark and disrupt the dancehall scene, for good.

With new releases on the horizon and an anticipated project with Skeng, his momentum shows no sign of slowing. His growing social media presence and upcoming collaborations are something that his fans can look forward to and engage with.

About Perylous

Born Shemar James on September 1, 1997, in the vibrant heart of Kingston, Jamaica, Perylous carries the legacy of Jamaica in his veins. Raised by Mr. and Mrs. James, he grew up surrounded by the rhythms and voices that echo through his community—a place where hardship and hope dance together, forging resilience and creativity.

From an early age, Perylous was immersed in Jamaican culture, absorbing the traditions, stories, and energy of his homeland. His education at Calabar High School—a historic institution known for nurturing some of reggae and dancehall’s brightest talents—provided fertile ground for his artistic growth. It was here, in the seventh grade, that his journey into music began, sparked by the realisation that for him, there was no life without melody.

The name "Perylous" is more than a moniker—it’s a declaration of identity. Inspired by a Jamaican saying that “perilous times are coming,” he embraced the idea that these times belonged to him, that he was destined to rise and leave his mark amid the challenges of today’s world. For Perylous, music is not just a career; it’s a movement. His vision is to inspire self-love, confidence, and joy, creating a wave of positivity and anarchy against mediocrity.

Perylous draws inspiration from legends who have shaped the Jamaican soundscape: Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Alkaline, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, and many others. Their influence resonates through his music, which seamlessly blends energetic beats with empowering messages and resilience. Since stepping into the professional realm after graduating from high school in 2014, he has performed at numerous community events across Jamaica, laying the groundwork for his future success.

Today, Perylous’s journey continues to evolve. As he moves forward, Perylous remains guided by his roots and a passion for Jamaican culture, as well as his conviction that music is written in the stars. His movement is just beginning, and the world has only started to hear his voice.
