Aleighcia Scott Makes History with First Welsh-Language Reggae Number One

Côsh is bursting with pride to release the first Welsh language offering from Welsh-Jamaican artist Aleighcia Scott, in collaboration with Pen Dub. This landmark release, fusing the soulful depth of Aleighcia’s reggae roots with her passion for her mother tongue, makes history on release day.

Having previously achieved chart-topping success, Aleighcia Scott has made history yet again—this time bringing her mother tongue to a global audience and proudly placing Welsh-language reggae on the international stage.

Aleighcia Scott

“It was so important to me to represent both of my cultures - Jamaican and Welsh - so I brought together musicians from both worlds to make this track truly special.”

- Aleighcia Scott

One of the most talented reggae artists of her generation, and having worked with industry greats such as Salaam Remi and RoryStoneLove, Scott’s music has already made waves, with her debut album ‘Windrush Baby’ being nominated for the Welsh Music Prize.

Aleighcia appeared on S4C’s Iaith ar Daith show in 2023, where she began her Welsh language journey, being mentored by actress Mali Ann Rees. A passion for her mother-tongue ensued and 2 years later the singer songwriter was chosen to become a coach on S4C’s ‘Y Llais’ where she met fellow coach and Côsh record label owner Yws Gwynedd. Becoming good friends in the process, the label was the obvious choice to release her first Welsh language offering, having penned it previously in collaboration with Pen Dub - one of Wales’ foremost reggae producers. Teaming up with artists such as Morgan Elwy and Tom Macaulay in the past, Pen Dub has made a name for himself in the Welsh music scene, producing and remixing top quality tracks, with Dod o’r Galon showing how good they have become.

PenDub

"Mixing the music of Jamaica with the language and soul of Wales has been a dream come true. We wanted a one drop/lovers rock groove that pays homage to reggae’s foundation while feeling fresh and modern”

- PenDub

The Sun got the Scoop!

Aleighcia Scott in the Sun Newspaper

Following much intrigue from press and industry, popping up in The Guardian, The Sun, and on Welsh TV News, Aleighcia’s storming social media campaign has propelled the track straight in at number one on the iTunes Reggae Singles Chart; the first time for a Welsh language reggae song!

We would like to thank fans, team Aleighcia and media alike for their continued support of Aleighcia and her music.
